Jim Doan founded esby to fulfill his passion to design beautiful objects and explore his own philosophies. Jim is an American-born Vietnamese designer whose family escaped Saigon among chaos in 1975. His designs are deeply influenced by his childhood experiences growing up in a small rural town. There, he grew to love and respect the natural beauty of the rivers and woods that he endlessly explored.

His eyes were opened to modern art and design as a young adult when his family moved to Chicago. He went on to study Industrial Design at the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign, spending summers working as a woodworker and craftsman. After graduating, he moved back to Chicago to begin his career as a product designer. Since, he has become an accomplished designer and has developed numerous award-winning products for companies around the world.

Jim's work expresses his passion for tradtitional craftsmanship and an inspired sense for modern design. Each product is entirely handcrafted and numbered to remind you that it is truly one-of-a-kind.
