Jimmy-Quang Doan founded esby to fulfill his passion to create beautiful objects and explore his own design philosophies. A Vietnamese-American designer, his family escaped Saigon among chaos in 1975. His designs are deeply influenced by his upbringing in rural Wisconsin where he grew to love the natural beauty of the woods and rivers surrounding him.

His eyes were opened to modern art and design when his family moved to Chicago as a young adult. He later went on to study Industrial Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, honing his skills working as a cabinetmaker and craftsman during the summers. After graduating, he began his professional career as a product designer in Chicago. Since, he has become an accomplished designer and has developed numerous award-winning products for companies worldwide.

At esby Jimmy-Quang creates innovative and inspired products that fuse the clean lines of modern design with the warmth of natural forms and materials. Each is completely handcrafted and numbered to remind you that it is truly one-of-a-kind.

esby (pronounced ĕs-bē) is named after Sarah Beth (initials SB), his wife and embodiment of natural beauty.
